Puerto de la Duquesa Area

Puerto de la Duquesa is the Costa del Sol’s best kept secret. Although easily accessible from both airports Malaga (approx.1hr) and Gibraltar (approx.1/2hr) Duquesa has a more tranquil feel than many of the better-known holiday resorts. Although keeping its relaxed living style, Duquesa has a lot to offer.

*

The marina itself - where you can watch the comings and goings throughout the day from one of the promenade café/bars

*

Within the Port, there is a supermarket, which stocks most of the essentials that you might need. For a bigger shop, Carrefour can be found in Estepona and at Sabinallas you will find further large supermarkets. In Sabinallas, you will also find a pharmacy if you should need any medical help for sunburn, hangovers, or the like.

If you are having a bad hair day then, at the last count, within the Port, there were two hairdressers.

*

Miles of beautiful unspoilt beaches, where you can relax and soak up the sunshine. The presence of lifeguards, toilets and changing areas, and a couple of beach bars make this a very pleasant place to spend some time. Sun beds and umbrellas can be hired for a few euros per day. The beach is extremely clean as the sand itself is swept daily in high season to remove any debris.

*

Dine at one of the many restaurants lining the Marina’s promenades. Here you will be spoilt for choice, you can select from Chinese, French, Indian, Italian and of course Spanish cuisine.

*

If Golf is your sport, then here too you will be spoilt for choice. There is an 18 hole golf course virtually on the doorstep and many other courses within a thirty minute drive. The course at La Duquesa was designed by Robert Trent Jones and tests even the most experienced golfer. The course has excellent views of the sea and, on a clear day, even the Atlas Mountains in North Africa. La Duquesa also has a driving range with some covered areas for those who do not like too much sun and two putting greens, one of which allows public access. Other facilities at the club include a shop, guest changing area, tennis courts and, members have the use of a gym and swimming pool. Non-members can hire the tennis courts through the shop.

*

If sightseeing is your fondness, then again it could not be easier. Duquesa makes it easily accessible by its proximity to the N340 main road. Within 15-20 minutes heading back towards Malaga you are at Puerto Banus and another 10 minutes you will be in Marbella. Heading in the other direction within 30 minutes, you are at Gibraltar. In between there are many other villages and towns worth a visit. In addition, if you do not mind heading up to the mountains then Ronda is well worth a visit.

*

Of course for the ladies, if shopping is on your “must do” list then either the city of Marbella with its hustle and bustle or the international resort of Puerto Banus with its designer shops is for you. Puerto Banus not only is a shoppers paradise but if dreaming of meeting a millionaire then its well worth a visit if only to drool over the luxury cars parked on the quay alongside their even more luxurious yachts.
